As chief financial officer, Brandon Nelson is responsible for all financial-related matters pertaining to MacFarlane Partners corporate accounts and investment portfolios, including capital markets/finance, accounting, tax, cash management and the implementation of financial strategies. He also oversees the corporate financial planning function and all financial reporting and communication to the firm’s institutional capital partners in addition to serving on the investment, valuation and senior management committees.
Career Overview
Brandon is a Certified Public Accountant with 25 years of real estate accounting and finance experience, during which he has been involved in the accounting and reporting of more than $10 billion in property assets. He has worked extensively in managing and overseeing internal and external investor reporting, annual audits and tax filings, technical research, real estate valuation, investor relations, finance, cash management, financial compliance and internal controls.
Past Experience
Brandon previously served as the firm’s vice president and portfolio controller, helping to oversee all accounting, tax and reporting functions for real estate portfolios managed on behalf of its capital partners.
Prior to joining MacFarlane Partners, Brandon was a manager at KPMG, working in its assurance practice and focusing on real estate clients, including REITs, general contractors, home builders, retail leasing companies and real estate holding companies. His responsibilities, related to the issuance of audit reports prepared in accordance with GAAP, included project management, budgeting, staff supervision, technical research and review, client service, internal control assessments and board of directors’ presentations.
