L.A. Live One of Only Five Projects Worldwide Honored by ULI’s Global Awards for Excellence

L.A. Live, the sports, residential and entertainment district developed by AEG in downtown Los Angeles, has received the Urban Land Institute’s Global Award for Excellence, one of only five development projects in the world to earn such honors in 2010.
Widely recognized as the land-use industry’s most prestigious recognition program, the annual Global Award for Excellence program was established in 1979. It recognizes the full development process of a real estate project, not just its architecture or design. Criteria on which projects are judged include leadership, community contribution, innovation, public/private partnership, environmental protection and enhancement, financial success, and response to societal needs.
Through a joint venture with AEG, one of the world’s leading sports and entertainment presenters, MacFarlane Partners has invested in one component of L.A. Live: the Hotel & Residences at L.A. Live, a 54-story landmark that serves as the cornerstone of the district and includes two hotels and Ritz-Carlton luxury residential condominiums. The hotels opened earlier in 2010 and the condominiums are slated for completion in the coming months.
AEG began development of the entire L.A. Live district in 1999, with the opening of the Staples Center. Today, L.A Live encompasses four million square feet and also features the Nokia Theatre LA. Live, home to the EMMY Awards, the ESPY Awards and the American Music Awards; Club Nokia, a 2,300-seat, live-music venue; the Regal Cinemas L.A. Live Stadium 14 movie theater; 13 restaurants, including Wolfgang Puck Bar and Grill; the GRAMMY Museum; and ESPN broadcast facilities; all of which are configured around the 40,000-square-foot, open-air Nokia Plaza.
The other four projects to earn ULI’s Global Award for Excellence were Miasteczko Wilanow in Warsaw, Poland; Rouse Hill Town Centre in Rouse Hill, Australia, a suburb of Sydney; The Southern Ridges in Singapore; and Thin Flats in Philadelphia.
The five projects were selected from among 19 worldwide finalists, all of which had been named winners in their respective regions (the Americas, EMEA and Asia Pacific) earlier this year.
